Women's Tennis Downs Colby-Sawyer, 8-1

NEW LONDON, N.H. — The Endicott women's tennis team defeated to Colby-Sawyer, 8-1, in non-conference action on Saturday afternoon at the Kelsey Courts. 

Olivia Berler (Marstons Mills, Mass.), Lejla Guster (Wethersfield, Conn.), Shelby Henry (Lincoln, Neb.), and Ripley Uyeda (Ranch Palos Verdes, Calif.) were all double winners for the Gulls.

Uyeda and Guster teamed up for a gritty 8-7 (10-8) victory at No. 1 doubles before the duo split off and claimed wins at No. 1 (4-6, 6-3, 7-5) and No. 2 (6-4, 7-5) singles, respectively.

Meanwhile, Berler and Henry notched an 8-3 triumph at No. 2 doubles prior to posting dubs at No. 6 (6-4, 6-2) and No. 4 (6-3, 4-6, 11-9) singles.

"Colby-Sawyer is a tough scrappy team," said Endicott women's tennis head coach Anthony D'Angelo. "We did a nice job working with our emotions and staying grounded. Our level will need to rise, but this was a nice result to start the year."

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • Endicott has not lost a season opener since 2016-17.
  • The Gulls are 2-0 versus Colby-Sawyer in season openers during that span (2019-20, W, 7-2).

Endicott (1-0) hosts NCAA Division I opponent Stonehill College on Saturday, September 10 at 12 PM. Colby-Sawyer (0-2) hosts its own invitational on Sunday, September 4.
