Final Stats

SCHENECTADY, NY - Freshman Caitlin Flynn (Mattituck, NY/Southold) scored in the second half and then advanced her team to the NCAA Division III Women's Soccer Sectionals with a shootout goal in a 1-1 tie with Worcester State in Second Round action at College Park field on the campus of Union College Sunday afternoon.

Flynn netted her seventh goal of the season in the 59th minute after collecting a pass from Caitlin D'Amario (East Longmeadow, MA/East Longmeadow) and sending a shot high over the head of Worcester State goalkeeper Kim Massa (Westford, MA) from 15 yards out.

Worcester State sophomore Tiffany Rotatori (Auburn, MA) tied the game in the 73rd minute, beating a defender and sending a shot into the open net. Kelsey Irish (Hudson, MA) set up the play with a pass across the top of the box to Rotatori.

The shootout went to a 3-3 tie when freshman Kellie Lajoie's (York, Maine) shot sailed high over the net. Worcester State's Massa had the final kick in the first round of the shootout, but her shot sailed high as well, ending the first round at 4-4.

Flynn nailed her shootout goal into the upper right corner of the net before Amanda Beaudet's (Auburn, MA) shot was stopped by Tina Loguidice (Hyde Park, NY/F.D. Roosevelt), sealing the win for the Gulls.

Flynn had a chance to win the game for the Gulls in the 76th minute as the ball deflected off a defender and Massa left the net to play the ball. Flynn collected the loose ball, but her shot from the right of the box hit the post.

Irish had a chance to put Worcester State on top with 48 seconds remaining in regulation on a direct kick, but her shot sailed into Loguidice's chest.

Worcester State held a slim shot advantage at 15-12, but out shot Endicott, 4-2, in the overtime periods, and had a 5-0 advantage in corner kicks.

Loguidice made three saves in the game, while Massa stopped six shots. EC will face Amherst in the Sectionals next weekend.
