SCHENECTADY, NY - The Endicott College women's soccer team opened the second half with three goals to upset host Union College, 3-2 in the first round of the NCAA tournament.
Caitlin D'Amario (East Longmeadow, MA/East Longmeadow) and Caitlin Flynn (Mattituck, NY/Southold) led the Gulls to the victory as the duo combined to score three goals in just eight minutes.
The Dutchwomen opened up the game scoring in the 18th minute as Caitlin Cuozzo (Norfolk, MA/ King Phillip Regional) picked up a pass from Allison Cuozzo (Norfolk, MA/ King Phillip Regional) giving Union a 1-0 lead.
The score remained 1-0 at the end of the first half before Endicott stormed out of the gates in the second half. The Gulls tied the score at one goal a piece in the 48th minute when D'Amario found Flynn who struck a shot past Union goalkeeper Mia Simone (Norfolk, MA/King Phillip Regional).
EC took the lead in the 55th minute when D'Amario netted her 13th goal of the season, scoring from just inside the penalty area. Flynn scored the eventual game winner two minutes later when she netted a rebound from Kim Shields (Pomfret, CT/Woodstock Academy).
Chelsea Hargis (East Lyme, CT/ East Lyme) cut the Gulls lead to one in the 76th minute when she fired a shot past EC goalkeeper Tina Loguidice (Hyde Park, NY/F.D. Roosevelt). Despite the goal Loguidice came up huge for the Gulls making eight saves in the win.
The win sends Endicott into the second round of the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2003. The Gulls will take on Worcester State College, who defeated Stevens Institute 2-0, on Sunday at 1:00 pm in Schenectady, NY.
