BEVERLY, MA - Sara Corbin (Palmer, MA) scored off of a corner kick, giving Curry what would be the game winner as the Colonels defeated Endicott College 3-0 in the final Commonwealth Coast Conference game of the season.
The Colonels took a 1-0 lead in the first half on Corbin's goal before Endicott would settle down and get its offense going. Caitlin D'Amario (East Longmeadow, MA/East Longmeadow) played well up front getting off three shots despite a very physical Curry defense. The Gulls also got strong play from Margreta Weber (Manchester, NH/Manchester West) and Shannon Pilsbury (Montclair, NJ/Montclair) who set up scoring chances for the Gulls. Weber and Pilsbury's play went along way in keeping EC in the game as the duo tried to keep the game in line with Endicott's strengths.
In the end however Curry's physical play turned out to be a formidable opponent as the Colonels added two goals in the second half to spoil the Gulls perfect CCC run. Dina Gould (Braintree, MA) scored in the 53rd minute to give Curry a two goal lead, she also netted a goal in the 83rd minute taking advantage of the fact that Gulls were pressing up as they searched for equalizing goals.
Endicott endured a scary moment in the first half as leading scorer Paula McGinn (Lynn, MA/Lynn Classical) went down with a knee injury. She was carted off the field and would not return but seemed to be able to move around under her own power.
The game marked the final home conference regular season game for the Gulls five seniors, D'Amario, Kim Shields (Pomfret, CT, Woodstock Academy), Staci Wiencko (Pembroke, MA/Notre Dame), goalkeeper Tina Loguidice (Hyde Park, NY/F.D. Roosevelt) and Megan Sniegoski (Boxboro, MA/Acto-Boxboro). The five seniors were honored by head coach Jodi Kenyon in a pre-game ceremony.
The loss is only the third of the year for the Gulls as they fall to 14-3 overall and 11-1 in the CCC. Endicott retains the top seed in the CCC tournament as they will look to capture their fourth strait CCC post-season crown and subsequent NCAA Tournament berth. Endicott has one final regular season game left as they will take on St. Joseph's of Maine, Wednesday night at 7:00 p.m. at Endicott Stadium.
