BOSTON, MA - Junior forward Paula McGinn (Lynn, Mass.) scored a pair of second half goals and senior Tina Loguidice (Hyde Park, N.Y.) made six saves to record the shutout as Endicott (3-1, 1-0 Commonwealth Coast Conference) defeated Wentworth, 2-0 (0-3, 0-1 CCC), in the league opener for both teams.
In the first half, defense was the name of the game as neither team could create scoring chances. Wentworth did outshoot the Gulls by a 6-3 margin, including two shots on goal late in the half, but could not convert.
Endicott gained the momentum early in the second stanza and capitalized on its first shot of the half when senior forward Caitlin D'Amario (East Longmeadow, Mass.) fed McGinn, who put home a shot to the upper left of the net. McGinn would tally her second of the game when she was fed a cross from senior midfielder Kim Shields (Pomfret, Conn.) and found an open net.
The Leopards, who would not get a shot off until nearly 12 minutes had gone by in the second half, were outshot over the final 45:00 by a 17-3 margin and 20-9 for the game. Junior keeper Beth Melanson (Lewiston, Maine) made eight saves, seven in the second half to take the loss.
