BEVERLY, MA - Endicott junior forward Paula McGinn (Lynn, MA/Lynn Classical) scored a pair of second half goals in a 3-0 Gulls' victory over visiting Commonwealth Coast Conference rival New England College Tuesday night at Endicott Stadium.
Endicott College (4-1, 2-0 CCC) jumped out to an early 1-0 advantage when senior forward Caitlin D'Amario (East Longmeadow/East Longmeadow) re-directed a Kellie Lajoie (York, ME/York) cross into the box. The goal was enough to hand the Pilgrims (2-1, 1-1 CCC) their first loss.
NEC freshman netminder Kerry Hughes (Wallkill, NY/Wallkill) made 13 saves, including a few of the extraordinary variety to keep the visitors in the game. However, Mcginn - the reigning CCC MVP - would break out in the final 10 minutes, scoring in the 81st and 90th minutes of play. Senior sweeper Staci Wiencko (Pembroke, MA/Notre Dame) assisted on the first tally, while the final goal of the afternoon was unassisted.
Endicott senior goaltender Tina Loguidice (Hyde Park, NY/F.D. Roosevelt) turned away six shots in recording the shutout victory while freshman Caitlin Flynn (Mattituck, NY/Southold) played well at outside midfield.
The Pilgrims got solid play from forwards Christina Aiello (Vail, CO/Battle Mountain) and Makaila Sinclair (Marblehead, MA/Marblehead). NEC will look to return to its winning ways Thursday when it hosts Rivier (4:00 PM) while the Gulls host Roger Williams Saturday (3:30 PM).
