Final Stats

Wenham, MA - In the battle of the unbeaten, the Endicott College women's soccer team came away with a heroic win at Gordon College today. With the win the Gulls (11-1-0 overall, 8-0 conference) move into sole possession of first place in the conference standings.

The first half of the game saw both teams with several scoring opportunities and momentum shifts, but neither team could find the back of the net. Despite posting nine shots on the Fighting Scots the game remained scoreless at the half.

The second half saw the Gulls come flying out of the gates as they took the opening kick straight to net but D'Amario missed wide with a shot. The Scots retaliated with an attack of their own just three minutes into the half as Gates fired a shot that was saved by an EC defender. The ball then deflected out and Colwill nearly scored but the ball struck the inside of the post and was cleared out. With 34:48 to play the Scots took the lead as freshman forward Brianna Pill (Hockessin, Del.) sent a cross into the box as Gates sprinted down the left side and found the back of the net.

The Gulls were resilient though, and the lead was short lived as EC tied the game up just eleven minutes later. D'Amario received the ball 20 yards outside the box and laced the ball into the back of the net to tie the game, 1-1, with 23:11 to play. Less than two minutes later, the Gulls struck again as Erica Hunt tallied her second goal of the season on an assist from Caitlin Flynn and Paula McGinn give the visitors a 2-1 lead with 21:15 showing on the clock.

With 16:34 to play in regulation, Gulls midfielder Kellie Lajoie took a direct kick which was headed into the goal by Sarah Miller and EC took a commanding 3-1 lead. The Scots would not back down however, as junior forward Elizabeth Malmstrom (Branchville, N.J.) battled for the ball in the corner with less than 15 minutes to play. Malmstrom worked her way out of the corner and fired off a shot which was blocked by a Gull defender. The ball then found its way past that defender, deflected slightly off yet another EC defender, was tapped into the air by keeper Tina Longuidice and fell into the net to make it a 3-2 game with 12:05 to play.

EC Senior Goalkeeper Tina Loguidice made 2 saves for the win while GC freshman goalkeeper Abby Ytzen (Des Moines, Iowa) made nine saves in the loss.

The win keeps the Gulls undefeated in the CCC at 8-0 while the Scots suffer their first conference defeat and drop to 6-1. The Gulls also snapped the Fighting Scots' 16 game unbeaten streak at home dating back to October 12, 2004.

The Gulls will return to action on Saturday with a home conference game against Salve Regina at 11:30am.
