BRISTOL, R.I. – Endicott’s women’s lacrosse team
improved to 8-4 and stayed a perfect 5-0 in the Commonwealth Coast
Conference (CCC) with an 18-8 victory Saturday over the host Hawks
of Roger Williams.
The defeat spoiled the Roger Williams Senior Day celebration and
dropped the Hawks to 3-3 in conference and 5-10 overall.
Morgan DeShaw (Danville, N.H.) scored five times for Endicott and
Holly Davis (Guilford, Conn.) and Lauren Todd (Newfields, N.H.)
added four goals apiece. Sophomore Rachel Campos (Shrewsbury,
Mass.) won nine draw controls and grabbed four ground balls, while
also pitching in with two assists for Endicott.
Endicott grabbed a 2-0 lead on goals by Callie Murphy (Woburn,
Mass.) and Davis in the first ten minutes of the game.
Kristen Pingree (Georgetown, Mass.) took a pass from Danica Delia
(Norwalk, Conn.) in the 15th minute and fired in
the Hawk’s first goal of the game. Todd and Delia traded
goals for each team, allowing the Gulls to maintain a one-score
lead.
Endicott would then score four straight goals over a six-minute
period, two of which were by DeShaw, to stretch the lead to
five.
Danielle Neagle (Avon, Conn.) and senior Britany Sweet (Hamden,
Conn.) scored for the Hawks in the final 1:16 of the game to pull
within three make it a 7-4 game going into halftime.
Pingree and Samantha Davenport (Bethel, Conn.) opened up the
second half with scores for the Hawks to bring RWU within one.
However, Endicott rallied off five straight goals to take a 12-6
lead.
Pingree stopped the Gull run with a goal at the 19:35 mark, yet
Murphy, Todd, Davis, and freshman Siri Mason (Williamstown, Mass.)
each put in a goal for a commanding 16-7 lead.
After a Deven Machette (Norwalk, Conn.) goal for RWU, Endicott
would score twice in the final five minutes to put the stamp on the
win, with Davis and DeShaw completing their scoring with a final
goal apiece.
DeShaw finished with a game-high nine points on five goals and
four assists. Davis and Todd each scored four times in the game,
with Todd adding two assists. Murphy finished with four points on
three goals and an assist. Leah Neff (South Berwick, Maine) notched
the win, making 11 saves in the game.
Pingree led the Hawks with three goals in the game. Rahilly added
two assists for RWU, while Jessica Searl (Glastonbury, Conn.)
finished with four draw controls and a caused turnover. Justine
Sullivan (Norwell, Mass.) stopped a season-high 18 shots in the
game.
Endicott hosts the University of New England on Tuesday at 4:00
pm.
