BEVERLY, Mass. – Midfielder Michelle Loizzo (Longmeadow,
Mass.) scored four goals and senior goalie Leah Neff (South
Berwick, Maine) made ten saves but it wasn’t enough to propel
Endicott by \#10 Bowdoin College.
The Polar Bears left Beverly with an 18-12 victory Tuesday night
in non-conference women’s lacrosse action at Endicott
Stadium. Endicott falls to 7-4 with the defeat.
Bowdoin (7-4) jumped on the Gulls early, scoring eight of the
first nine goals to grab an 8-1 lead before half of the first half
had elapsed.
Senior Chelsea Albright (East Lyme, Conn.) got the scoring started
at 26:38 with her seventh goal of the season, but the Gulls
answered back through Loizzo just over a minute later. The Endicott
senior captain now has seven goals on the season.
The Polar Bears then got two straight goals from senior Elizabeth
Clegg (Hudson, Ohio) and two more from leading scorer Carolyn
Gorajek (Highstown, N.J.), who tallied four times on the night and
now has 33 goals on the season.
Katie Stewart (Chevy Chase, Md.) scored again for Bowdoin before
Clegg completed her hat trick at the 15:57 mark. Clegg would add
another tally in the second half.
Loizzo broke the Bowdoin scoring streak and would score all four
of her goals in the first half. Holly Davis (Guilford, Conn.) added
three goals for Endicott, two in the first half, to help Endicott
pull within four at halftime, 11-7. Morgan DeShaw (Danville, N.H.)
also scored her only goal of the game in the first half. DeShaw had
two of Endicott’s four assists on the evening.
The Polar Bears came out of the gate quickly in the second half
with five of the first six goals, including one more each by Clegg
and Gorajek and two by McKenna Teague (Cohasset, Mass.).
Endicott came on strong late in the second half, scoring four of
the last six goals. Kelly Tierny (South Hadley, Mass.) scored
all three of her goals in the second half, two of them in the final
fourteen minutes, sandwiched around a tally by Davis and a goal by
Bowdoin sophomore Olivia King (Georgetown, Mass.). King had three
ground balls and three draw controls to go with her goal, helping
the Polar Bears to a 21-17 ground ball advantage and a 1-15 edge on
draw controls.
Freshman Siri Mason (Williamstown, Mass.) scored her second
collegiate goal with under a minute left to cap the scoring.
Katie Herter (Topsfield, Mass.), who scored twice on five shots,
helped greatly in the draw control department, winning seven for
Bowdoin, while Rachel Campos (Shrewsbury, Mass.) won six draw
controls and grabbed three ground balls for Endicott. Callie Muprhy
(Woburn, Mass.), who assisted on DeShaw’s goal, caused two
turnovers for the Gulls.
Endicott was 5-8 on free position attempts, while the visitors
were 7-10, as only three of their 18 goals came with an assist.
Junior goalie Tara Connolly (Simsbury, Conn.) made nine saves in
the victory for Bowdoin.
The Gulls return to Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action on
Saturday afternoon when they play at Roger Williams at 3:30 pm.
Endicott is currently 4-0 in CCC play.
Bowdoin also takes up conference play again on Saturday afternoon.
They will carry a 4-3 NESCAC record into a home game against
Wesleyan at 1:00 pm.
