BEVERLY, Mass. – In an early season battled between the top teams in the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) the Endicott Gulls women’s lacrosse team battled to a 13-10 win over local rival Gordon College.

The Gulls, while improving to 6-2 on the year and 3-0 in the CCC, ended Gordon’s spotless season, as the Fighting Scots dropped to 8-1 (2-1 CCC).

Endicott grabbed a 6-2 lead by the break but needed to regain the lead and then hold off Gordon as the visitors tied the game at 7 less than halfway through the second half.

Callie Murphy (Woburn, Mass.) scored four times for the Gulls, including what would prove to be the game-winner halfway through the second half, which put Endicott in front, 11-8. Murphy was instrumental in helping Endicott seal the game, picking up one of her two assists later in the half when she found Rachel Campos (Shrewsbury, Mass.) cutting in front of an open goal for an easy score. Murphy added a free-position goal with 3:33 remaining to cap the Endicott scoring for the day.

Jordan Alexander (Portland, Maine) scored her 31st and 32nd goals of the year for Gordon, the first of which put the Fighting Scots in front 1-0 less than three minutes into the game.

Morgan DeShaw (Danville, N.H.) got the Gulls on the board with the first of her five goals on the afternoon, taking an assist from Murphy with five minutes gone in the first. Holly Davis (Guilford, Conn.) gave the Gulls a 2-1 advantage, but Anna Blomberg’s (Simsbury, Conn.) 31st goal of the year tied the game at two with just over ten minutes gone.

Blomberg and substitute Stephanie Fitzgerald (Groveland, Mass.) led the Scots with three goals apiece, with Fitzgerald picking up an assist to tally four points on the day.

The Gulls ended the first half on a 4-0 run, kicked off by a DeShaw free position goal. DeShaw tallied again before the break, as did Davis and Murphy.

Gordon quickly fought back out of halftime, scoring five of the first six goals of the second half. Strikes by Blomberg and Fitzgerald 14 seconds apart pulled the Endicott lead back to 6-4 and after a DeShaw goal, Blomberg and freshman Abby Illian (Hillsdale, N.J.) tallied before Fitzgerald knotted the game at 7.

Endicott followed with goals by Murphy and DeShaw before Kelly Tierney, who had three points in the game netted a free-position goal to put Endicott back in front, 10-7.

Senior goalie Leah Neff (South Berwick, Maine) made four saves in improving her record to 6-2 on the season, while sophomore netminder Danielle Maguire (Braintree, Mass.) suffers her first loss (8-1) despite making seven saves.

Endicott outshot Gordon by a slim 28-27 margin and had a 30-26 ground ball advantage, led by Murphy and Campos, who each had five ground balls. Gordon’s Krysti Leach (Naples, Maine) led all players with eight ground balls and Murphy was tops with four caused turnovers.

Campos grabbed four draw controls for Endicott, with Davis collecting three herself. Fitzgerald and senior Parisa Hassanzadeh (Winchester, Mass.) led Gordon with tree apiece.

Endicott will take a break from their conference schedule next Wednesday when they welcome the Tufts Jumbos to town for a 4:00 pm match. Tufts is currently ranked \#12 in the country, according to the latest IWLCA poll.

Gordon will play out of conference a day later when Wheaton College comes to Wenham for a 7:00 pm showdown.
