ORLANDO, Fla. – In a torrential rainstorm, the Endicott
women’s lacrosse team began their participation in the
National Training Center tournament with a 12-7 loss on Sunday to
the Blue Knights of SUNY Geneseo.
Endicott fell behind 6-1 at halftime and despite matching goals
with SUNY Geneseo in the second half, saw their record even up at
1-1. The
Blue Knights improved to 2-0 on the season.
Seven different players scored for Endicott, including Holly Davis
(Guilford, Conn.), who now leads the team with five goals on the
season. Callie Murphy (Woburn, Mass.) had a goal and two
assists.
Murphy scored Endicott’s lone goal of the first half, which
came with just twenty seconds to play in the frame. Morgan DeShaw
(Danville, N.H.) helped the Gulls bookend the break with a goal two
and a half minutes into the second half.
Murphy assisted on goals by Caitlin Pratt (Bow, N.H.) and Kelly
Tierny (South Hadley, Mass.) before junior Lauren Todd (Newfields,
N.H.) cut the lead to 7-5 but Caroline Buonnocore (Syracuse, N.Y.),
who had five goals on the day, scored a natural hat trick to push
Geneseo’s lead back to five.
Late goals from Davis and Michelle Loizzo (Longmeadow, Mass.) were
not enough to keep Endicott in the game, nor were 12 saves from
senior goalie Leah Neff South Berwick, Maine).
Lea Paris (Henrieta, N.Y.) and Emily Haggerty (Syracuse, N.Y.)
took turns in scoring the game’s first four goals for the
Blue Knights, who outshot Endicott 26-20.
Julie Bernatzky (Mt. Sinai, N.Y.) made seven saves in goal for the
Blue Knights.
Endicott will end their trip to Florida with a game this afternoon
against Springfield College before returning home to start their
Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) schedule on Saturday at Salve
Regina.
