Putnam, Laugeni Sweep CCC Women’s Basketball Weekly Awards

BEVERLY, Mass. – Endicott women's basketball student-athletes Kaleigh Putnam (Wallingford, Conn.) and Tara Laugeni (Woodbridge, Conn.) have received weekly awards from the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC), as announced by the league earlier today. Putnam was named the CCC Player of the Week, while Laugeni garnered CCC Rookie of the Week honors. Both awards are firsts in their respective careers.

In last week's CCC Tournament, Putnam played a pivotal role in Endicott capturing its first-ever conference title in program history. During the tournament, Putnam averaged 20.7 points per game, while shooting 50 percent (21-for-42) from the field. She had a pair of 20-plus point contests, dropping 25 in the CCC Quarterfinals against No. 6 seed Curry and then scoring 21 in the championship game against No. 4 seed University of New England. Putnam also contributed four assists, two steals, and two blocks against the Nor'easters. In addition to her points per game stats, the senior Gull also averaged 3.0 rebound, 3.0 assists, and 1.7 blocks per game during the tournament.

Meanwhile, Laugeni found her stride for Endicott as the tournament progressed. Laugeni improved her point total through each round of the tournament, starting with five points in the quarterfinal against No. 6 seed Curry, progressing to seven points in the semifinal against No. 2 seed Roger Williams, and concluding with 12 points in the championship contest against No. 4 seed University of New England. Laugeni also had a big game on the boards in the title match, grabbing eight rebounds. For the week she averaged 8.0 points per game on 52.9 percent (9-for-17) shooting from the field.

Endicott (18-10) will take on No. 12/14 nationally ranked Scranton (24-3) in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on Friday, March 6 in Scranton, Pennsylvania at a time to be determined later.
