R.J. Tolan Named New England Hockey Journal D3 Men's College Coach of the Year

BEVERLY, Mass. — Endicott men's ice hockey head coach R.J. Tolan (Waltham, Mass.) has been named the New England Hockey Journal D3 Men's College Coach of the Year.

Per the New England Hockey Journal:

Tolan guided the Endicott College Gulls to the best season in program history, one that finished with a 23-3-2 record and reached the NCAA Tournament final four.

The Gulls won the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) championship for the third time in six seasons and crafted a 21-game unbeaten streak between November and February.

In the NCAA Tournament, Endicott defeated Norwich in the quarterfinals before falling to Hobart, the eventual NCAA D3 National Champion, in the semifinals by a 3-1 score.

The Gulls ranked second nationally in scoring defense (1.50 goals allowed per game) and fifth nationally in scoring offense (4.50 goals per game).

Tolan also was named a finalist for the Edward Jeremiah Award, which is given annually to the top coach in Division III.

This is Tolan's first career New England Hockey Journal D3 Men's College Coach of the Year award.

His other accolades at Endicott include four CCM/AHCA Coach of the Year finalist honors, one NEWHA Division II/III Men's Coach of the Year award, three CCC Coach of the Year nods, and one ECAC Northeast Coach of the Year selection.

Tolan is 142-43-12 (.751) all-time at Endicott, which includes an impressive 96-27-6 (.767) mar in conference play.
