CCC CHAMPIONSHIP: No. 4 Endicott Upends No. 5 Curry To Capture League Crown, 6-0

BEVERLY, Mass. — The No. 4 nationally ranked Endicott men's ice hockey team defeated No. 5 Curry, 6-0, in the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Championship on Saturday evening at Raymond J. Bourque Arena. 

Endicott scored a pair of goals in all three periods to capture its third CCC Championship in program history (2016-17, 2019-20, 2022-23).

Zach Mazur (Lancaster, N.Y.) and Jack Ring (Guilford, Conn.) accounted for the Gulls' first period tallies (4:58, 12:50), while Eric Johansson (Malmo, Sweden) and Primo Self (Grand Rapids, Mich.) both found the back of the net in the second (6:55, 18:59).

Noah Strawn (Wareham, Mass.) and Jackson Sterrett (Hendersonville, Tenn.) followed with goals at 12:54 (EN) and 14:11 of the third to punctuate the statement win.

Ryan Wilson (Shelton, Conn.) also was lights out in between the pipes for the Gulls as the sophomore netminder stopped all 24 shots he faced to register his fourth career shutout.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • Today's contest featured the highest nationally ranked matchup in a CCC Championship in league history (any sport).
  • Endicott is 15-5-1 all-time against Curry.
  • Johansson has scored a goal in two out of his three CCC Championship appearances.
  • The Gulls are 12-1-1 at home this season.
  • Endicott won by the largest scoring differential (six goals) in CCC Men's Ice Hockey Championship history.
  • The Gulls now lead all CCC men's ice hockey programs with three titles (UNE, 2, 21-22, 18-19 | Nichols, 1, 17-18).

WHAT'S NEXT 

No. 4 Endicott (22-2-2) has earned the conference's automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament and will find out its next opponent on Monday, March 6 via the NCAA Selection Show at 10 AM.

No. 5 Curry (21-5-1) will more than likely receive an at-large bid into the NCAA Tournament on Monday based on the Colonels' strength of schedule and stellar 2022-23 campaign.
