BEVERLY, Mass. — Endicott sophomore goalie Atticus Kelly (St. Paul, Minn.) has been chosen as the College's nominee for the Elite 90 Award.
The Elite 90, an award founded by the NCAA, recognizes the true essence of the student-athlete by honoring the individual who has reached the pinnacle of competition at the national championship level in his or her sport, while also achieving the highest academic standard among his or her peers.
The award is presented to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative grade-point average (GPA) participating at the finals site for each of the NCAA's 90 championships.
This year's winner will be announced at the NCAA Division III Men's Ice Hockey National Championship Banquet on the campus of Endicott College this Thursday (March 23).
Additional awards announced at the banquet include the Sid Watson Award (DII/III Player of the Year), the Edward Jeremiah Award (College Division II/III Men's Coach Of the Year), and the Division II/III Men's All-America Team.
Kelly currently sports a 3.75 GPA as a finance major at Endicott.
In 14 games played (13 starts) this season, Kelly has compiled a 12-0-2 record behind a 1.58 goals against average (GAA) and a .938 save percentage.
He was lights out in his last start as the sophomore netminder turned away 25 shots in a 3-0 win over No. 9 nationally ranked Norwich in the NCAA Quarterfinal round (3/18).
The shutout was the second of his career.
Kelly also ranks among the nation's best (D3) in goalie winning percentage (No. 2, .923), GAA (No. 9), and save percentage (No. 8).
