Endicott Rolls By Western New England, 18-4

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. — The Endicott women's lacrosse team rolled past host Western New England University, 18-4, Saturday afternoon in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action en route to the team's fifth straight victory.

Endicott jumped out to a 5-0 lead with 23:34 remaining in the first half as senior attack Meghan Lennon (Canton, Mass.) registered a pair of unassisted markers for her team-leading 26th and 27th goals of the season.

Western New England battled back to cut the deficit to 6-3 with 15:55 to go in the opening stanza before the Gulls rattled off seven straight scores to go into the break up, 13-3.

Endicott continued that streak and made it 12 unanswered goals by adding five more to begin the second half to lead by as much as 15, (18-3 with 17:00 minutes remaining) before the Golden Bears notched the final goal of the game at the four-minute mark.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • Sophomore goalie Bella Rino (Northborough, Mass.) earned her fifth-straight win (5-0) in goal as she made a career-high 11 saves before giving way to senior Maura Grady (Marblehead, Mass.) with 8:05 remaining in the game where Grady stopped two shots and gave up the final goal.
  • Sophomore midfielder Ali Campbell (Lakeville, Mass.) scooped up a game-high/season-high five ground balls.
  • Freshman midfielder Jennifer Lacroix (Wrentham, Mass.) contributed a game-best five points (four goals, one assist) for the Gulls and won a game-high seven draw controls.
  • Senior midfielder Emily Whitney (Rye, N.Y.) also scored four goals for the Gulls.
  • Junior midfielder Olivia Larson (Cheshire, Conn.) recorded her first hat trick of the season and won a season-high six draw controls.
  • Endicott won 21 draw controls compared to Western New England's three for the Gulls' largest margin this season.

FOR THE FOES

  • The Golden Bears were led in scoring by junior attack Julia Winer's (Longmeadow, Mass.) two goals.
  • Junior goalie Shannon McFadden (West Islip, N.Y.) took the loss (3-8) by surrendering 16 goals with seven saves in 37:26 minutes of action before being replaced by junior Madison Cutler (Pittston, Maine).
  • Cutler made three saves and allowed two goals.
  • Sophomore defender Janel Lewis (Plymouth Meeting, Pa.) caused a game-high three turnovers.

NOTES

  • The Gulls are now 14-6 all-time and 7-4 on the road at WNEU dating back prior to the 2001 season.
  • Endicott also won the most recent meeting before today, as Whitney's  goal with six seconds remaining in the first overtime sent the Endicott women's lacrosse team flying onto the field to a celebrate a 10-9 victory (OT) on April 9, 2016 in Beverly, Mass.

Endicott (8-3, 5-0 CCC) returns home to host Salve Regina on Tuesday, April 11th at 4:00 p.m.

Western New England (4-8, 1-3 CCC) travels to Dudley, Mass. to take on the Nichols College Bison on Tuesday, April 11th at 7:00 p.m.
