BEVERLY, Mass. – Endicott College’s \#Jenna Bortolotti\# (Milton, Mass.) pitched a pair of complete game wins as the Gulls defeated New England College, 8-0 and 9-2, in a The Commonwealth Coast Conference doubleheader on Saturday afternoon in Beverly, Mass. The Blue and Green improve to 25-10-1 overall and 18-5-1 in the TCCC while the Pilgrims fall to 13-23 and 12-12 in league play. With the wins, the Gulls have wrapped up the number one seed in the upcoming TCCC Playoffs.

In game one, Endicott scored its first two runs when \#Merry MacDonald\# (Braintree, Mass.) hit an inside the park homerun down the rightfield line that scored \#Katherine McGann\# (Topsfield, Mass.) and gave the Gulls a 2-0 lead. The Gulls tacked on four more in the third inning on RBI singles from MacDonald and \#Hayley Hovhanessian\# (Farmington, Conn.), who came around to score on a fielder’s choice by \#Sarah Spaziano\# (Norton, Mass.). \#Krista Fales\# (Melrose, Mass.) capped off the scoring for the Gulls with an RBI double that scored \#Nicole Devlin\# (Dudley, Mass.).

The Gulls added a run apiece in the fourth and fifth innings including a walk-off RBI single from senior \#Megan Downey\# (Ballston Lake, N.Y.) to end game one.

\#Jenna Bortolotti\# scattered two hits through five innings of work, giving up singles in the first and fourth inning while striking out six Pilgrims. Eight of the nine starting players registered a hit including a 3-for-3 day from MacDonald, who also drove in three runs and scored a pair. \#Nicole Devlin\# was 2-for-3 at the dish as well.

Bethany Forshaw (Waterford, Conn.) was a perfect 2-for-2 at the plate, picking up both NEC hits. Forshaw unfortunately also suffered the setback, giving up 10 hits and eight runs (three earned) while walking three and striking out three.

Bortolotti trotted back out to the mound to start the second game and ran into trouble early. The Pilgrims loaded the bases on a single by Teraysa White (Belgrade, Maine) and a pair of Endicott errors by Jenna Lazar (Milton, Mass.) and Devlin. Bortolotti got the first out of the inning on a strikeout before \#Sarah Spaziano\# nailed White at home for the second out and Gabrielle Timms (Clark Summit, Pa.) grounded out to first to end the threat.

Endicott took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first as \#Jenna Lazar\# scored on a throwing error by Melinda Robbins (Oxford, Mass.). NEC responded two innings later as Alyssa Hoot (Waterville, Ohio) blasted a two-run homerun over the fence in leftfield to give the Pilgrims a 2-1 lead.

The Gulls took the lead back in the bottom of the fourth as \#Krista Fales\# and \#Megan Downey\# both had RBI singles to give EC a 3-2 lead. The Gulls tacked on two more in the frame on errors by the Pilgrims and led 5-2 after four innings of play. \#Jenna Bortolotti\# allowed only two more hits over the final four innings following the homerun while the Endicott offense notched four more runs in the bottom of the sixth to give the Gulls a 9-2 victory.

The Blue and Green were led by multi-hit days from Lazar, \#Ashley Wright\# (Merrimack, N.H.) and \#Sarah Spaziano\#, who also added a pair of RBI. \#Kelly Tenney\# (Sandy Hook, Conn.) was a perfect 1-for-1 at the plate with 2 RBI and a run scored while Lazar scored three runs on the day. Bortolotti tossed a complete game, giving up eight hits and two runs (one earned) while striking out four.

Seven NEC players registered a hit in game two led by a 2-for-3 day from Meghan Beausoleil (Littleton, N.H.). Alyssa Hoot was 1-for-3 with two RBI and a run scored, all coming on her homerun in the third inning. Gabrielle Timms fell to 5-13 with the loss after going five innings, giving up 10 hits and seven runs (four earned) while walking five.

The Blue and Green now look ahead to the TCCC Playoffs and the pursuit of their eighth-consecutive TCCC Championship. New England College will need some help in getting to the playoffs as the Pilgrims entered action on Saturday clinging on to the eight spot in the standings. Playoff seedings will be announced later on Saturday night by the TCCC offices.
