BEVERLY, Mass. – The Endicott College softball team swept their third straight doubleheader as the Gulls defeated Regis College, 4-0 and 12-4, in a pair of The Commonwealth Coast Conference softball games on Saturday afternoon in Beverly, Mass. Endicott has now won six-straight games to improve to 16-10 overall and 9-5 in the TCCC while the Pride drop to 4-21 overall and 1-7 in conference games.

In game one, Endicott grabbed an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first on an RBI double by \#Ashley Wright\# (Merrimack, N.H.) that scored \#Jenna Lazar\# (Milton, Mass.). That would be all the offense Endicott starting pitcher \#Jenna Bortolotti\# (Milton, Mass.) would need as the junior did not allow a hit until the top of the fifth inning on a clean single by Rachel Cavella (West Roxbury, Mass.).

The Gulls tacked on three more in the bottom of the fifth when Endicott took advantage of a pair of mistakes by the Pride to plate their first two runs in the inning. \#Megan Downey\# (Ballston Lake, N.Y.) scored the first run as she scampered home when Molly Teixeira’s (Rindge, N.H.) throw to third sailed high as the catcher tried to nab Downey stealing third. \#Jenna Lazar\# would score on a flyball that was dropped in the outfield, allowing her to score easily from third. \#Katherine McGann\# (Topsfield, Mass.) would add an RBI single to round out the scoring for the Gulls. Bortolotti would hold the Pride to three hits over the final two innings to earn her eighth straight win.

Seven different Gulls registered a hit in the win led by \#Nicole Devlin\#’s (Dudley, Mass.) 2-for-3 day. \#Jenna Bortolotti\# improved to 8-5 this year by going seven innings and scattering four hits while striking out six.

Rachel Cavella had a 2-for-3 day to lead the Pride while Caitlin Luquet (Walnut Creek, Calif.) and Hope Benjamin (Rochester, Mass.) added the other two hits for Regis. Kendra Abram (Acushnet, Mass.) suffered the setback for the Pride, going six innings and giving up four runs (one earned) on eight hits.

The Pride wasted no time in game two as Regis grabbed a 3-0 lead in the top of the first. Regis loaded the bases following a walk and a pair of singles from Kendra Abram and Caitlin Luquet. Hope Benjamin promptly cleared the bases as she drove a one-out double to the fence in right center that allowed all three runs to score. Endicott got one back in its half of the first as \#Jenna Lazar\# scored on a passed ball that cut the deficit to 3-1.

Endicott scored another run in the second when \#Hayley Hovhanessian\# (Farmington, Conn.) scooted home on another passed ball to make it a 3-2 game. The Gulls would tack on six runs in the third as \#Kelly Tenney\# (Sandy Hook, Conn.) had a 2 RBI single up the middle and \#Krista Fales\# (Melrose, Mass.) and \#Jenna Lazar\# both added RBI doubles.

Hope Benjamin cut the deficit in half, 8-4, when she blasted a solo homerun off the rocks in centerfield, but the Gulls added four runs in their half of the fifth – including a two-run, walk-off homerun by \#Ashley Wright\# – that sent the Gulls home with the doubleheader sweep.

\#Merry MacDonald\# and \#Ashley Wright\# led the offensive attack in game two as the duo combined to go 5-for-7 with 3 RBI and four runs scored. \#Jenna Lazar\# went 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run while \#Kelly Tenney\# was a perfect 2-for-2 at the dish with two RBI and a run scored. \#Jenna Bortolotti\# picked up her second win of the day, this time in relief, as the junior went the final 2.1 innings and gave up only one run on one hit, the Benjamin homerun.

Regis was led by Hope Benjamin who went a perfect 3-for-3 with 4 RBI in game two. Luquet added a pair of hits while Shannon Hurley (Billerica, Mass.) went 1-for-3 with a run scored. Kendra Abram suffered her second loss of the day as she went 3.1 innings in relief, giving up nine hits and 10 runs (four earned).

The Gulls return to action on Tuesday as the Blue and Green travel to Milton, Mass. for a crucial TCCC doubleheader against Curry College scheduled for 3:00 p.m. Regis looks to snap a three-game skid when the Pride host Nichols College on Sunday afternoon in conference doubleheader action at 1:00 p.m.
