DUDLEY, Mass. – The Endicott College softball team dropped its The Commonwealth Coast Conference opener, 12-11, in 11 innings to Nichols College on Wednesday afternoon. The game was scheduled to be the first of a doubleheader, but the second game was postponed due to darkness. No makeup date has been announced at this time.

The win marks the first in program history over the Gulls, and brings the Bison to 3-8 overall on the season and 1-0 in TCCC action. Endicott dips to 5-6 overall and 0-1 in league play.

Nichols scored six runs in the second inning on four hits and three walks, including a two-run double from Ashley Robidoux (Milford, Mass.). The Gulls responded in the top of the third with five runs on four hits and three walks, posting a two-out rally to push four runners across.

\#Jenna Lazar\# (Milton, Mass.) hit a two-run double to knot the game in the top of the seventh, and \#Lyndsey Martins\# (Cumberland, R.I.) retired the Bison in order in the bottom of the frame to induce extra innings.

The teams traded runs in each of the extra frames, plating the placed runner until the top of the 11th when Bison pitcher Molly Ferraro (Millis, Mass.) forced a groundout, fanned the second batter and then got a flyout to center to keep the Gulls off the board.

With Hardigan placed on second to start the bottom of the frame, Loren Rozanski (Plainville, Conn.) reached via walk, and during the next at-bat, a passed ball scored Samantha Hardigan (Brockton, Mass.).

Hardigan finished 2-for-4 with three runs scored and an RBI on the day, while Valeri Calcagni (Rocky Hill, Conn.) was 2-for-3 with a double, three RBI and a run. Ashley Robidoux (Milford, Mass.) was 1-for-4 with three RBI and a pair of runs scored.

For the Gulls, \#Jenna Lazar\# finished 2-for-5 with a double, a run and three RBI, and \#Sarah Spaziano\# (Norton, Mass.) went 3-for-5 with a double, a run and an RBI. \#Ashley Wright\# (Merrimack, N.H.) and \#Byrne Katz\# (Trumbull, Conn.) each had a pair of RBI on one hit.

Ferraro earned the win, fanning four and allowing four runs (one earned) on four hits. Lindsay Hassett (Oxford, Mass.) pitched 6.1 innings, allowing seven runs on eight hits while walking eight and striking out four.

\#Kayla Carignan\# (Laconia, N.H.) took the loss with two innings of work, allowing three unearned runs on one hit while striking out one and walking two. \#Jenna Bortolotti\# (Milton, Mass.) hurled the first four innings with seven runs on seven hits and six walks. Martins allowed two runs (one earned) on four hits during four relief innings.

The Blue and Green return to action on Sunday afternoon when the Gulls travel to the University of New England for a TCCC double-header starting at 12:00 p.m. The Bison are scheduled to travel to New England College on Saturday for a conference double-header with first pitch at noon.
