KISSIMMEE, Fla. – The Endicott College softball team was the victim of a no-hitter against Fontbonne University but rebounded with a 1-0 win over Wisconsin River-Falls on day two of the Rebel Spring Games held in Kissimmee, Fla. The Gulls split a pair of games for the second day in a row and now sit at 2-2 overall this season.

In game one, Fontbonne’s Kourtney VonBehren (St. Louis, Mo.) tossed a no-hitter against the Gulls while only walking three batters. The Griffins got VonBehren three runs of support as Sam Pecher (St. Louis, Mo.) went a perfect 2-for-2 at the dish with a pair of RBI and Cassandra Bremer (Chicago, Ill.) went 1-for-2 with the other run driven in.

Endicott’s \#Jenna Bortolotti\# (Milton, Mass.) suffered the setback for EC as the junior went six innings, giving up seven hits and three earned runs. Freshman \#Krista Fales\# (Melrose, Mass.) drew a pair of walks while \#Hayley Hovhanessian\# (Farmington, Conn.) drew the other free pass. Fales broke up the perfect game in the third inning when she worked a lead-off walk to start the frame.

Game two turned out to be a pitcher’s duel between TCCC Pitcher of the Week \#Kayla Carignan\# (Laconia, N.H.) and Wisconsin River-Falls’ Rose Tusa (Roseville, Minn.). Carignan gave up back-to-back singles in the top of the first but struck out the next two batters to get out of the jam. In the bottom half of the inning, the Gulls got all the offense they would need on the day as \#Merry MacDonald\# (Braintree, Mass.) drove in \#Jenna Lazar\# (Milton, Mass.) following a lead-off single from the shortstop to grab a 1-0 lead.

Carignan scattered two hits over the next four innings before running into trouble in the bottom of the sixth. The freshman gave up back-to-back singles to the Falcons’ Ashley Goettl (North Mankato, Minn.) and Jessica Lundgren (Cushing, Minn.). After the runners were sacrificed into scoring position and with one out in the inning, the Gulls forced Goettl into a run down at third base and got the second out. Carignan would escape any damage, forcing the next batter, Sarah Fern (Brooklyn Center, Minn.), to fly out to centerfield.

Carignan would go on to pitch a perfect seventh inning for her first career shutout.

The Gulls could only muster three hits off Falcons’ pitching as Lazar and MacDonald both had singles while \#Byrne Katz\# (Trumbull, Conn.) picked up her first collegiate hit in the win. Carignan pitched well for the second day in a row, improving to 2-0 by going seven innings and giving up only five hits while striking out three.

Wisconsin River-Falls’ Jessica Lundgren went 2-for-3 at the plate while Patty Olson (Roseville, Minn.), Hayley Buchanan (Eden Prairie, Minn.) and Ashley Goettl each added hits in the loss. Rose Tusa was the tough-luck loser as the sophomore righty went six innings, giving up one run on three hits with a pair of strikeouts.

The Blue and Green return to action tomorrow when the Gulls will face William Paterson University at 9:00 a.m. and then follow that up with a 1:00 p.m. game against Trinity Christian College.
