BEVERLY, Mass. – The Endicott College softball team made it 12-in-a-row as the Gulls swept a doubleheader, 2-0 and 9-2, against Roger Williams University on Wednesday afternoon in The Commonwealth Coast Conference action in Beverly, Mass. With the wins, the Gulls improve to 22-10 and 15-5 in the TCCC while the Hawks drop to 20-17 and 12-10 in league play.

In game one, Endicott’s \#Jenna Bortolotti\# (Milton, Mass.) spun a two-hitter while the Gulls’ offense posted a single run in both the second and fourth inning to hold off Roger Williams, 2-0. Bortolotti went the distance, striking out four Hawks and walking none in her seven innings of work.

Endicott broke the scoreless tie in the home half of the second. Junior \#Hayley Hovhanessian\# (Farmington, Conn.) led off the frame with an infield single and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by freshman \#Nicole Devlin\# (Dudley, Mass.). Hovhanessian capitalized on a Roger Williams miscue, scoring on a Jaclyn Doolin (Miller Place, N.Y.) error to get the Gulls on the board.

Endicott doubled its advantage in the fourth when Devlin dropped an RBI sacrifice bunt that scored senior \#Merry MacDonald\# (Braintree, Mass.), who led off the inning with a walk. MacDonald worked her way into scoring position by stealing second, and moved to third on a Hovhanessian single.

The Gulls’ offense woke up in game two as eight of the nine starters registered at least one base hit. \#Nicole Devlin\# picked up where she left off in game one, as the freshman had an RBI single in the bottom of the second to give EC the early 1-0 advantage. Roger Williams took its first lead of the day as the Hawks scored a pair of runs in the top of the fourth on a Lauren Tierney (Middleboro, Mass.) two-run blast that scored Kerry Burke (Old Saybrook, Conn.).

Endicott was quick to respond as the Blue and Green plated four runs in their half of the fourth. Devlin scorched an RBI double to score \#Ashley Wright\# (Merrimack, N.H.) before \#Byrne Katz\# (Trumbull, Conn.) had a 2 RBI single. The Gulls scored their last run in the frame when \#Krista Fales\# (Melrose, Mass.) scooted home on a passed ball.

\#Jenna Bortolotti\#, who took over for Gulls’ starter \#Kayla Carignan\# (Laconia, N.H.) in the fourth inning, scattered four hits over the final 3.2 innings and \#Sarah Spaziano\# (Norton, Mass.) nailed a three-run homerun in the fifth inning to lead the Gulls to the 9-2 victory.

\#Merry MacDonald\# and \#Nicole Devlin\# each had two hits apiece to lead the Gulls while Spaziano and \#Byrne Katz\# each added a hit and combined for five RBI in game two. \#Kayla Carignan\# went the first 3.1 innings, giving up eight hits and two earned runs before Bortolotti came in to get the win, throwing 3.2 innings and scattering four hits for her 14th victory of the season.

RWU’s Erica Castro (Medford, N.Y.) went 2-for-4 at the dish while Kerry Burke was a perfect 3-for-3 with a run scored. Sarah Gill (Watervliet, N.Y.) went 2-for3 while Tierney was 1-for-4 with the Hawks’ only two RBI of the day. Kelly Marcin (Windsor Locks, Conn.) suffered the setback for the Hawks, giving up nine earned runs on 10 hits in 4.2 innings of work. Stacy Broughton (Newtown, Conn.) was effective in relief as the sophomore went the final 1.1 innings, giving up no runs or hits and walking only one batter.

The Blue and Green return to action on Thursday when the Gulls host the Wentworth Institute of Technology in a TCCC doubleheader scheduled for 3:00 p.m. Roger Williams looks to halt a three-game skid when the Hawks host Western New England College on Saturday night, starting at 5:00 p.m.
