Field Hockey Upends Trinity (Conn.), 5-4

HARTFORD, Conn. — The Endicott field hockey team defeated Trinity (Conn.), 5-4, in non-conference action on Wednesday night at Robin L. Sheppard Field. 

The Bantams got on the board first but Reagan Hicks (Barnstable, Mass.) tied the game with just over two minutes left in the first quarter.

With the two teams tied at one apiece in the second quarter, the Gulls scored twice in the span of two minutes and 30 seconds as Maddy Dengler (Winchester, Mass.) broke the deadlock after she took the ball from midfield and beat the entire defense down the field, slotting home her eigth tally of the season. Meg Arnette (Merrimac, Mass.) made the score 3-1 off a feed from Tori Swanson (Farmington, Conn.) as Endicott took the two goal lead to halftime.

Coming out of the break, Trinity cut the lead to one, but Endicott responded in quick succession as Swanson scored a no-look between the legs goal off a rebound to give the Gulls a 4-2 lead. Dengler scored her second of the contest 47 seconds later and pushed the Gulls lead to 5-2.

The Bantams didn't go down without a fight as they scored twice in the fourth quarter but the Gulls defense held Trinity to just two shots following their fourth goal and secure the road victory.

In goal, Faith Minickene (Madison, Conn.) made seven saves in the victory as her record improves to 9-1. 

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • This was Endicott's first win against Trinity (Conn.) all-time, moving the all-time series to 1-2.
  • Based on available date, this is the first season the Gulls have defeated two New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) opponents in the same season.
  • Third multi-goal game of the season for Dengler.
  • Endicott's road record this season impoves to 7-2 and hands Trinity (Conn.) its first non-conference loss of the season.

Endicott (12-4) hosts Gordon College on Saturday, October 26 at 1 PM for Senior Day. Trinity (Conn.) (4-9) hosts conference opponent Hamilton on Saturday, October 26 at 11 AM for Senior Day.
