BIDDEFORD, Maine — The Endicott field hockey team was victorious at UNE, 1-0, in Saturday afternoon's Conference of New England (CNE) opener at Blue Bolt Field.
After a scoreless first three quarters, Tori Swanson (Farmington, Conn.) broke the ice with a goal in the 51st minute. The junior attempted four shots in the contest, all of which were on target.
That single tally was all the Gulls needed to top their conference rivals, as the defensive play was stellar throughout the contest to limit the hosts' scoring chances.
Freshman Faith Minickene (Madison, Conn.) made her first career start in net and shined for the Blue and Green. She snatched up 11 saves, which ties her career-high from 9/14 versus New Paltz in addition to her first career shutout.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- With the win, the Gulls advance to 22-18 in the all-time series against the Nor'Easters.
- The Gulls have won each of the last three contest between the two teams.
- Kathleen Reissfelder (Westwood, Mass.) accompanied Swanson in the offensive charge, as she fired five shots (three on net).
- Swanson's goal was her 11th of the season and 43rd of her career. Her 43 tallies place her seventh all-time in career goals.
- The Gulls edged the Nor'Easters 14-13 in the shot column.
