No. 1 Middlebury Tops Field Hockey, 7-1

MIDDLEBURY, Vt. — The Endicott field hockey team lost to six-time defending NCAA Division III national champion Middlebury College, 7-1, in non-conference action on Sunday evening at Peter Kohn Field.

The Panthers scored six straight in the matchup before Tori Swanson (Farmington, Conn.) broke up the potential shutout bid with her 20th tally of the season at the 49:56 mark.

Maddy Dengler (Winchester, Mass.) dished out her fifth assist of the year to set up the score.

In goal, Faith Minickene (Madison, Conn.) was credited with 26 saves in the setback (6-1).

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • Middlebury extended its winning streak to 43 straight games (program record; needs two more victories for the D3 record — based on available data).
  • The Panthers have won 17 straight at home, and 75 of their last 76 contests at Peter Kohn Field.
  • Endicott had its seven-game winning streak snapped.
  • The Gulls are 4-2 on the road this season.
  • Swanson leads the Conference of New England (CNE) in goals (20) and goals per game (1.667).
  • Among her D3 peers, Swanson is first in goals per game and second in points per game (3.50).
  • Minickene's 26 saves rank second all-time in program history (school record: 29, Lizetta Solarik, 10/26/13 vs. Salve Regina).
