BRISTOL, R.I. — The Endicott field hockey team defeated Roger Williams, 3-2, in Conference of New England (CNE) action on Saturday afternoon at Bayside Field.
Casey Halliday (Monroe, Conn.) got the scoring started just 3:28 into the game to give the Gulls some early momentum. Reagan Hicks (Barnstable, Mass.) set up the tally for her fifth helper of the season.
The Endicott defense then held off a ferocious Roger Williams attack in the first half that saw the hosts record seven shots (three on goal) and eight corners, but the Gulls were able to hold onto their 1-0 lead heading into the break. Riley Perkins (Lakeville, Mass.) made a key defensive save midway through the second quarter to keep the Hawks off the scoreboard.
In the third quarter, the Hawks evened up the score at the 34:49 mark to set up a dramatic final 15 minutes of action.
Tori Swanson (Farmington, Conn.) broke the deadlock at the 13:06 mark of the fourth quarter when she redirected a Halliday shot to put the Gulls up 2-1.
Following a penalty inside the circle, Perkins buried the penalty stroke to push the Endicott lead to 3-1.
Roger Williams eventually added its second goal of the day off a penalty corner with no time remaining to make it a one-goal score.
In net, Faith Minickene (Madison, Conn.) recorded seven saves in the victory (5-0 overall).
