Women’s Basketball Handles Wentworth On Senior Day, 68-41

BEVERLY, Mass. — The Endicott women's basketball team defeated Wentworth, 68-41, in a Conference of New England (CNE) matchup on Saturday afternoon inside MacDonald Gymnasium on senior day.

Prior to the contest, seniors Sarah Dempsey (Windham, N.H.), Kiley Drezek (Seymour, Conn.), Libby Fleming (Bangor, Maine), Katelyn Konareski (Milford, Conn.), and Caroline Waisnor (Lynnfield, Mass.)  were all honored for their contributions to the women's basketball program and the Endicott community.

Nine different student-athletes netted a basket for the Gulls this afternoon.

Dempsey led the way with 21 points (9-12 FG, 2-2 FT), 14 rebounds, three assists, and three steals.

Fleming added 12 points and hauled in three rebounds, while Waisnor, Drezek, and Sofia Mazzotta (Billerica, Mass.) each recorded six points. 

As for the game, the Gulls captured all early momentum and never looked back. 

The Blue and Green led 24-13 in the opening quarter. 

Soon after, the hosts ignited a 7-2 scoring stretch to take their largest lead of the half of 42-23 at halftime. The run was generated by back-to-back Fleming layups and a Dempsey trifecta as the buzzer sounded. 

Endicott never relinquished the double-digit lead in the second half and led wire-to-wire in the senior day triumph.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • Dempsey is now 14 points away from surpassing Melissa Tarpy '98 on the all-time leaderboard (1st all-time; 1,560 points).
  • Endicott caused 20 Wentworth turnovers, which turned into 23 points on the other end.
  • The hosts' bench outscored the visitors' substitutes, 20-2.
  • The Gulls edged the Leopards on the glass, 43-36

WHAT'S NEXT

Endicott (14-5, 10-2 CNE) visits the University of New England (UNE) on Wednesday, February 5 at 5:30 PM. Wentworth (2-17, 0-12 CNE) remains on the road against Curry on Wednesday at 5:30 PM.
