Women's Basketball Bests Nichols, 95-67

DUDLEY, Mass. — The Endicott women's basketball team controlled the fastbreak offense of Nichols and cruised to a 95-67 blowout win in Wednesday evening's Conference of New England (CNE) contest from Nichols Athletic Center.

Sarah Dempsey (Windham, N.H.) led all scorers with 18 points (7-8 FG, 4-5 FT) in the matchup. She also pulled down six rebounds and dished out four assists. 

Sofia Mazzotta (Billerica, Mass.) had her most efficient scoring outing of the season, as she posted 16 points (5-6 FG, 2-3 3PT). She also wrapped up seven boards and picked up three steals.

Libby Fleming (Bangor, Maine) had another great night from the floor, as she poured in 15 points (6-10 FG, 3-4 FT), secured eight rebounds, five assists, a block, and two steals.

After a 6-6 start, the Gulls exploded for a 16-4 run to grab hold of an early 22-10 lead through the first 6:08 of the first quarter. Mazzotta and Dempsey led the early efforts in construction of the lead.

They continued the hot start by outscoring the Bison 29-13 in the second quarter and headed into the halftime break up 59-29. Mazzotta (14 points, six rebounds), Dempsey (10 points, four rebounds), and Fleming (10 points, seven rebounds, four assists, one block, and one steal) paved the way in the first half to lead Endicott scorers. 

The second half featured more of the same, as the Gulls continued to pile on. With the exception of a brief Nichols run in the third quarter, the Blue and Green shut down the Bison and cruised to a 95-67 victory.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • The Gulls lead the all-time series, 35-6. They have won 18 of the last 19 matchups between the two programs dating back to 12/2/2015.
  • Endicott shot a season-best 59.4% from the floor.
  • Tricia Wladkowski (Norwood, Mass.) dropped a career-high 15 points (7-9 FG, 1-1 FT) rejected two shots, and picked up five boards in her 17 minutes from off the bench.
  • The Blue and Green controlled the glass, outrebounding the Bison 49-27 in the matchup.
  • Endicott led for 38:05 of the 40 minutes in the contest.

WHAT'S NEXT

Endicott (11-5, 7-2 CNE) travels to Gordon this Saturday for a 1 PM CNE matchup with the Fighting Scots. Nichols (10-6, 3-6 CNE) heads to Roger Williams on Saturday, also for a 1 PM CNE contest.
