Women's Basketball Falls Short At Roger Williams, 74-61

BRISTOL, R.I. — The Endicott women's basketball team fell to Roger Williams, 74-61, in Wednesday evening's Conference of New England (CNE) matchup from Roger Williams Campus Rec Center Gymnasium.

Tenley Wallin (Danbury, Conn.) highlighted the Endicott efforts with a 16-point (7-11 FG, 2-2 FT), three-assist, two-rebound showing.

Sarah Dempsey (Windham, N.H.) cashed in 12 points (6-11 FG) with two rebounds, while Libby Fleming (Bangor, Maine) posted 10 points (5-7 FG), four rebounds, a block and a steal before fouling out.

Emma Shinney (Wakefield, Mass.) provided 13 points (4-11 FG, 2-5 3PT, 3-4 FT), six assists, and five rebounds in 31 minutes from off the bench.

After Fleming put the Gulls in front 6-5 with a nice second-chance bucket in the first five minutes, Roger Williams rode a 9-2 run to take an early 14-8 lead.

They carried that momentum into the second quarter, where they were able to expand the advantage to nine (23-14). Dempsey moved the Gulls a little closer after a nice spinning post move freed her up for a bucket down low.

A few possessions later, back-to-back mid-range jumpers from Dempsey and Alyssa Garabedian (Cheshire, Mass.) brought the Blue and Green within two possessions before Dempsey and Fleming then converted two more buckets at the 5:12 and 4:11 marks, making it a one-possession game (29-26) off the heels of an 8-2 spurt.

That expanded into a 12-2 run thanks to two more paint scores from Fleming and Garabedian, which put the Gulls up 30-29 before half.

After the Hawks reclaimed the lead (31-30) just prior to the halftime buzzer, the two teams traded baskets over the first five minutes of the third quarter, as Roger Williams clung to a 40-39 lead. From there, they pulled ahead with an 8-3 run, and were ultimately able to head to the fourth up seven (51-44).

The Gulls opened the fourth on a 7-4 run, highlighted by a Shinney triple. Unfortunately for them, the Hawks heated up and exploded for a 13-4 burst and the Gulls were never able to recover, falling by a 74-61 final score.
