BEVERLY, Mass. — The Endicott women's basketball team took down Hartford, 68-62, in a Conference of New England (CNE) matchup at MacDonald Gymnasium on Saturday afternoon.
Emma Shinney (Wakefield, Mass.) led the way with a game-high 20 points, five steals, and five boards in 35 minutes off the bench.
Tenley Wallin (Danbury, Conn.) poured in a career-high 17 points (5-10 FG, 2-4 3PT, 5-6 FT), while Libby Fleming (Bangor, Maine) netted 12 points to round out the individual highlights for the Blue and Green.
In the second quarter, the Hawks led 30-19 with 5:23 remaining. Endicott responded with a 13-4 scoring run but still trailed 34-32 at the break.
A Wallin three-pointer ignited the spurt, followed by a pair of free throws from Sarah Dempsey (Windham, N.H.), a Tricia Wladkowski (Norwood, Mass.) jumper, and six consecutive points by Shinney.
From there, the Hawks led 48-46 at the end of the third quarter which featured four lead changes.
Endicott was down by as many as six points in the fourth quarter (57-51, 5:00) before a 17-5 stretch gave the home team the victory down the wire.
The spurt was spearheaded by Shinney with eight crucial points and a suffocating defense that kept the Hawks to five points in the final five minutes of the contest.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Endicott swiped a season-best 14 steals on afternoon and turned over the Hawks 19 times.
- Dempsey stuffed the stat sheet with eight points, six rebounds, four assists, and four steals.
- The Gulls are 6-2 at The Nest this season.
- The Blue and Green held Hartford to zero fast break points.
- Endicott took both matchups last season against Hartford (1/6/2024, 64-56 | 2/3/2024, 89-61).
- The hosts outdueled the Hawks in the painted area, 28-26.
