BEVERLY, Mass. — The Endicott women's basketball team fell to Western New England, 71-63, in conference action on Saturday evening at MacDonald Gymnasium.
Alyssa Garabedian (Cheshire, Mass.) and Avery Brown (Canton, Conn) highlighted the Gulls with 15 points (4-7 FG, 7-9 FT) and 14 points (5-11 FG, 4-7 3PT), both career-highs.
The Gulls also saw Emma Shinney (Wakefield, Mass.) contribute 12 points, four assists, and three rebounds, while Sarah Dempsey (Windham, N.H.) posted nine points, a game-high 10 rebounds, and three assists in the setback.
Today's game featured eight lead changes, eight ties, and no advantage on the scoreboard greater than 10 points for either team.
Endicott produced a 30-29 lead at the break thanks to a strong field goal percentage (41.9) and plus-efforts in points off turnovers (8-2) and fast break points (8-3).
Shinney led all scorers in the first half with 10 points (5-10 FG), alongside two rebounds and two dimes.
Western New England responded in the third, building its lead to as high as six points with 2:16 remaining in the quarter, but the Gulls answered back with an 8-0 run to reclaim the lead heading into the final 10 minutes of action.
Shinney (2 free throws, 2:03, 47-43), Brown (3-pointer, 1:25, 47-46), and Dempsey (3 free throws, 0:34, 48-47; 0:00, 49-47) all contributed points in the run.
In the fourth, the Golden Bears erased an early 52-49 deficit (8:55 remaining following a Brown 3-pointer) with a 10-0 spurt, forcing Endicott to take a timeout with 4:39 to play.
The Gulls brought the game within five points (66-61) late in the quarter (1:16) on a second-chance layup by Dempsey; however, Western New England countered with a layup and three free throws to clinch the road victory.
