BEVERLY, Mass. — The Endicott women's basketball team defeated Suffolk, 70-60, in a Conference of New England (CNE) battle inside MacDonald Gymnasium on Tuesday evening.
Emma Shinney (Wakefield, Mass.) produced her third double-double of the season, via a career-high-tying 25 points (9-15 FG, 6-8 FT) and 11 boards. She also dished out three assists and had two steals.
Sarah Dempsey (Windham, N.H.) recorded her first double-double of the season with 13 points, 11 rebounds, and a season-high five dimes, while Avery Brown (Canton, Conn.) contributed nine points courtesy of three trifectas off the bench.
After the first quarter, the Blue and Green controlled the pace of the contest and closed the opening half on an 8-2 spurt to take a 35-24 lead before heading into the locker room. Shinney generated all eight points during the run with a trio of layups and an acrobatic shot in the lane.
Following the break, the Gulls got into a groove on the offensive end to lead by as many as 18 points (52-34) following a pair of Dempsey free throws.
In the final quarter, the Rams cut the Gulls' advantage to 69-60 with 1:10 to play, but Endicott never wavered to extend the winning streak to four games.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- The Gulls hold the edge in the all-time series, 18-17.
- Tonight's contest featured the second-best scoring offense (Endicott - 72.7 PPG) and the third-best scoring offense (Suffolk - 71.0 PPG) in the CNE thus far.
- The Blue and Green caused 21 turnovers, translating into 18 points on the other end.
- Endicott edged Suffolk on the glass, 41-37.
- The Gulls dished out 14 assists on 26 made field goals this afternoon.
- Shinney leads the team with three double-doubles.
