Women’s Basketball Surges Past Emerson, 72-53

BEVERLY, Mass. — The Endicott women's basketball team defeated Emerson, 72-53, on Tuesday night in non-conference action at MacDonald Gymnasium.

Libby Fleming (Bangor, Maine) headlined the Gulls' efforts with 13 points (4-8 FG, 0-1 3PT, 5-7 FT), 19 rebounds (nine offensive), four assists, two steals, and a block.

Emma Shinney (Wakefield, Mass.) also contributed a team-high 17 points (7-11 FG, 2-2 3PT, 1-2 FT), four assists, and two rebounds to the victory.

Meanwhile, Sarah Dempsey (Windham, N.H.) chipped in with 15 points and six boards. 

Tenley Wallin (Danbury, Conn.) rounded out the list of double-digit scorers with 10 points (3-6 FG, 2-3 3PT, 2-2 FT).

Defensively, the Gulls posted a 35-9 differential in points off turnovers to secure their first home victory of the season.

Trailing 29-18 with 4:41 in the second quarter, Endicott produced a 19-4 run to close out the half (37-33), fueled by 11 points off turnovers.

Katelyn Konareski (Milford, Conn.) sparked the Gulls with five points to start the run, while Dempsey (7), Fleming (2), Shinney (2), and Wallin (3) all filled up the bucket as well.

Endicott rode that momentum into the second half, leading by as many as 22 points more than once while holding the Lions to just five points total in the fourth quarter.

As a team, the Gulls shot 42.2% from the field (27-64) and 60.0% beyond the arc (9-15).

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • Endicott is 19-3 all-time against Emerson (based on available data).
  • The Gulls have won six straight versus the Lions, dating back to 11/30/10.
  • Konareski finished as a +16 in her 16 minutes of play.
  • Fleming tied her career-high for rebounds (19 total; 12/05/23 vs. Suffolk).
  • She also notched her first double-double of the season.
