CCC QUARTERFINALS: No. 6 Women’s Basketball Knocks Off No. 3 Gordon, 60-55

WENHAM, Mass. — The Endicott women's basketball team defeated Gordon, 60-55, in the quarterfinal round of the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) tournament on Tuesday evening at the Bennett Center.

Sarah Dempsey (Windham, N.H.) led the Gulls with a game-high 20 points (6-14 FG, 0-0 3PT, 8-11 FT), seven rebounds, two assists, a pair of blocks, and one steal.

Tara Laugeni (Woodbridge, Conn.) also contributed 16 points and seven boards, while Libby Fleming (Bangor, Maine) chipped in with six points, 10 rebounds, three assists, and one rejection.

Trailing 49-42 with 7:16 remaining in the contest, Endicott produced an 18-6 run down the stretch to punch its ticket to the CCC Semifinals.

The Gulls began the run with an 8-0 spurt on baskets from Laugeni, Taylor Bogdanski (Saugus, Mass.), Emily St. Thomas (Sterling, Mass.), and Dempsey to take a slim 50-49 advantage at the 3:27 mark.

From there, both teams traded buckets until Dempsey broke a 53-53 stalemate (2:00) by scoring six straight points to put the game on ice.

Dempsey highlighted the Gulls' 18-6 run with 12 points.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • Endicott holds the edge in the all-time series, 32-15.
  • Gordon led by as many as seven points twice in the fourth quarter (47-40, 8:57 | 49-42, 7:16).
  • The Gulls reserves outscored the Fighting Scots bench, 24-10.
  • Endicott shot 50-percent (7-14 FG, 0-3 3PT, 6-9 FT) in the fourth quarter comeback, its highest field goal percentage in any quarter throughout the matchup.
  • Tonight's game saw seven ties and six lead changes.

WHAT'S NEXT

No. 6 Endicott (12-14) will travel to No. 2 University of New England on Thursday, February 24 for a CCC Semifinal matchup at 7 PM.

Gordon's season comes to a close at 15-11.
