UNE Tops Women’s Basketball, 80-58

BIDDEFORD, Maine — The Endicott College women's basketball team fell to the University of New England (UNE), 80-58, in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action on Tuesday night at the Harold Alfond Forum.

Tara Laugeni (Woodbridge, Conn.) led the Gulls in scoring with 24 points (8-19 FG), six rebounds, and four blocks. 

Sarah Dempsey (Windham, N.H.) also contributed with a double-double, via 16 points and 11 rebounds. 

In the opening stanza, the Nor'Easters' largest lead was 16 points (30-14) with 8:58 remaining in the 2nd quarter. 

Endicott limited the damage and fought back within a nine-point deficit, 38-29, at halftime thanks to a 6-0 run while holding UNE scoreless for the last four minutes. 

The run was fueled by four points from Taylor Bogdanski (Saugus, Mass.) and a pair of free throws by Laugeni. 

From there, UNE outscored Endicott 23-6 in the third quarter and eventually claimed its largest advantage in the contest of 26 points (70-44) with 6:07 left in the matchup. 

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • The Nor'Easters lead the all-time series versus the Gulls, 32-17.
  • UNE outscored Endicott 46-22 in the paint. 
  • Tonight's game saw one lead change and one tie. 
  • UNE outrebounded the Blue and Green, 47-29.

Endicott (3-4, 1-2 CCC) visits Salem State on Saturday, December 10 at 2:00 PM. UNE (7-3, 3-0 CCC) welcomes Roger Williams to Biddeford, Maine on Tuesday, January 3 at 5:30 PM.
