Women’s Basketball Downs Suffolk, 57-49

BOSTON, Mass. — The Endicott women's basketball team defeated Suffolk, 57-49, in conference action on Saturday afternoon at Smith Court.

Emily St. Thomas (Sterling, Mass.) and Kiley Drezek (Seymour, Conn.) tied for the game-high in points with 13 apiece. 

Tara Laugeni (Woodbridge, Conn.) also scored 10 points in 18 minutes off the bench to round out the list of double-digit scorers for the Gulls.

Tied 20-20 with 4:39 left to play in the second quarter, Endicott produced a 16-7 run to close out the half and never relinquished the lead the rest of the way despite several comeback attempts by the Rams.

Drezek led the run with a team-high seven points, highlighted by a pair of three-pointers.

Libby Fleming (Bangor, Maine) also contributed five points, while St. Thomas and Laugeni both scored two points each to cap the scoring.

The Gulls finally pulled away for good when Laugeni converted an and-one at the 5:07 mark of the fourth to put Endicott ahead 51-46. 

From there, the Gulls outscored Suffolk 6-3 down the stretch to lock up the victory.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • Endicott is 17-14 all-time against Suffolk.
  • The Gulls grabbed their fourth road win of the season.
  • St. Thomas and Fleming both finished with a team-high 10 rebounds (St. Thomas 3rd double-double this season).

Endicott (7-10, 5-5 CCC) hosts the University of New England on Tuesday, January 24 at 5:30 PM. Suffolk (9-8, 4-6 CCC) visits Roger Williams next Tuesday at 5:30 PM.
