Women’s Basketball Falls To Suffolk, 80-65

BEVERLY, Mass. — The Endicott women's basketball team fell to Suffolk, 80-65, in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action on Saturday afternoon at MacDonald Gymnasium.

Emily St. Thomas (Sterling, Mass.), Sarah Dempsey (Windham, N.H), Tara Laugeni (Woodbridge, Conn.), and Libby Fleming (Bangor, Maine) all finished in double figures for the Gulls.

St. Thomas led the Gulls with 17 points (5-13 FG, 6-7 FT) to go along with eight rebounds, three assists, and two steals. 

Dempsey also added 14 points (6-15 FG), five rebounds, and two steals, while Laugeni and Flemming chipped in with 13 and 11 points, respectively. 

The Gulls soared out to an early nine-point lead (14-5) with 5:52 to play in the first quarter, but Suffolk rallied in the second with a 20-1 scoring run to take a 43-33 advantage into the break. 

From there, Endicott cut the halftime deficit down to three (48-45) with a 12-5 run with 5:17 remaining in the third quarter, ignited by a pair of buckets from Dempsey, two free throws each from St. Thomas and Laugeni, and a Fleming layup to cap the run.

Suffolk responded by holding Endicott to three points over the final 4:03 of the matchup to secure the conference triumph on the road. 

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • Endicott leads the all-time series, 16-14.
  • The Rams outscored the Gulls in the paint, 36-16.
  • The game saw one tie and one lead change.
  • Suffolk outrebounded Endicott, 60-41, aiding in a 22-14 differential in second chance points.

Endicott (3-3, 1-1 CCC) visits the University of New England on Tuesday, December 6 at 7:30 PM. Suffolk (5-2, 1-1 CCC) hosts Roger Williams also on December 6 at 5:30 PM.
