Women’s Basketball Rallies Past Emerson, 68-61

BEVERLY, Mass. — The Endicott women's basketball team defeated Emerson, 68-61, in non-conference action on Tuesday night at MacDonald Gymnasium.

Tara Laugeni (Woodbridge, Conn.), Emily St. Thomas (Sterling, Mass.), Cassie Caldwell (Marshfield, Mass.), and Sarah Dempsey (Windham, N.H.) all scored in double-figures for the Gulls.

Laugeni highlighted the group with 18 points, 10 rebounds, two assists, one block, and a steal.

St. Thomas also chipped in with 13 points, 10 rebounds, three assists, and one steal, while Caldwell notched 16 points and six assists — both career highs.

Dempsey rounded out the quartet with 17 points and nine boards.

Trailing 45-42 to start the fourth quarter, Endicott produced a 13-8 run to take a 55-53 lead with 4:54 remaining and never relinquished it.

Caldwell was the spark plug for the Gulls as the senior point guard tallied seven points and dished out two assists during the run.

She also canned a three-pointer at the 4:24 mark (58-53) to help Endicott eventually construct two separate eight-point leads (3:04, 62-54 | 1:53, 64-56) down the stretch, which put the game away. 

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • The Gulls are 17-3 all-time against Emerson.
  • Endicott has won four in a row in the series dating back to 11/30/10.
  • Tonight's game featured three ties and nine lead changes.
  • Endicott upped its point total in every quarter (4, 17, 21, 26) showing a ton of resiliency in the process after falling behind 17-4 to start the matchup.
  • The Gulls did so by shooting 40-percent or better in each quarter (47.1, 2nd | 41.2, 3rd | 58.8, 4th).

Endicott (2-2) visits Salve Regina on Wednesday, November 30 at 5:30 PM. Emerson (1-7) hosts UMass Boston on Tuesday, November 29 at 7 PM.
