NEWPORT, R.I. — Sarah Dempsey (Windham, N.H.) and Tara Laugeni (Woodbridge, Conn.) combined for 42 points and 21 rebounds to lead the Endicott women's basketball team past Salve Regina, 68-59, in conference action on Wednesday night at the Rodgers Recreation Center.
Dempsey produced 21 points (game-high) and nine rebounds, while Laugeni collected 21 points (game-high/season-high) and 12 rebounds (team-high).
Emily St. Thomas (Sterling, Mass.) also filled out the stat sheet with seven points, five rebounds, and a game-high four assists in the victory.
Libby Fleming (Bangor, Maine) rounded out the list of individual highlights with eight points and five boards off the bench.
Leading 52-51 with 5:46 remaining in the matchup, Endicott finished out the contest on a 16-8 run to win the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) opener for both squads.
Dempsey guided the offense with nine points during the spurt, including the last four points for the Gulls.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Endicott leads the all-time series, 20-19.
- The Gulls have won three straight games versus Salve Regina, dating back to 2/12/22.
- Salve Regina saw its best start to a season (4-0) since its 2010-11 campaign (5-0, 25-4 overall, CCC Champions) come to a close with tonight's loss.
