Women’s Basketball Outlasts Nichols, 86-82

BEVERLY, Mass. — The Endicott College women's basketball team defeated Nichols, 86-82, in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action on Wednesday evening at MacDonald Gymnasium.

Tonight's game served as the program's Black History Month Game to inspire the Endicott community to think, talk, and act to make our campus a more knowledgeable, equitable, and engaged place.

As for the game, Sarah Dempsey (Windham, N.H.) led the way off the bench with her fourth double-double of the season via 25 points (6-13 FG, 13-18 FT) and 18 rebounds.  

Tara Laugeni (Woodbridge, Conn.) added 19 points off the bench and snagged nine boards, while Emily St. Thomas (Sterling, Mass.) chipped in with 14 points (5-10 FG, 4-4 FT) alongside five assists and four boards.

In the opening quarter, Endicott raced out to a 25-14 lead courtesy of a 10-1 run (2:39-0:17) fueled by four consecutive buckets from Laugeni and a Dempsey layup. 

From there, the Gulls ignited for a 14-2 stretch producing a 21-point lead (39-18, 2nd quarter, 5:04) powered by three-pointers from Katelyn Konareski (Milford, Conn.) and Alyssa Garabedian (Cheshire, Mass.), followed by layups from Libby Fleming (Bangor, Maine), Garabedian, and Laugeni.

The Blue and Green later halted a Nichols comeback as the visitors outscored the hosts 33-11 in the fourth quarter.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • Endicott completed the season sweep over Nichols (73-70, 1/10/23) and has won 15 of the last 16 meetings against the Bison dating back to 12/2/2015.
  • Endicott generated a season-high 86 points in tonight's victory.
  • The Blue and Green outrebounded the Bison, 59-45.
  • The Gulls bench outscored the Bison reserves, 48-31.
  • Endicott never trailed in the matchup and led by as many as 32 points (75-43) with 1:28 to play.

WHAT'S NEXT

Endicott (8-12, 6-7 CCC) travels to Wentworth on Saturday, February 4 at 1:00 PM. Nichols (6-14, 4-9 CCC) hosts Suffolk this Saturday at 1:00 PM.
