Women’s Basketball Pushes No.16/20 Springfield To The Brink, 62-56

BEVERLY, Mass — The Endicott women's basketball team fell to No. 16/20 nationally ranked Springfield, 62-56, on Wednesday evening in non-conference action at MacDonald Gymnasium. 

Sarah Dempsey (Windham, N.H.) led the way for the Gulls with a team-high 15 points (4-8 FG, 7-8 FT) and five rebounds. 

Tara Laugeni (Woodbridge, Conn.) also chipped in with 12 points, seven rebounds, and two blocks. 

Meanwhile, Katelyn Konareski (Milford, Conn.) provided a spark off the bench with 10 points (3-7 3PT, 1-2 FT) and Emily St. Thomas (Sterling, Mass.) filled up the stat sheet with nine points, seven rebounds, four assists, and three steals. 

After trailing at the half by 17 (36-19), Konareski buried a right-wing three-pointer capping off a 34-18 run to pull Endicott within one point (54-53) with 3:02 remaining in the matchup. 

From there, the Pride pulled away with some clutch shooting going 6-8 from the stripe and 1-2 from the field.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • The Pride lead the all-time series 2-0 against the Gulls.
  • The game only featured one tie and two lead changes.
  • In the third quarter, Endicott outshot Springfield 61.5% to 21.2% to ignite the comeback attempt.
  • Springfield is ranked No. 16 in the D3hoops.com and No. 20 in the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) polls, respectively.

Endicott (1-1) travels to Rhode Island College on Saturday, November 19 at 1:00 PM. No. 16/20 Springfield (3-1) hosts Gordon this Saturday at 1:00 PM.
