Western New England Tops Women’s Basketball, 73-50

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. — The Endicott women's basketball team lost to Western New England, 73-50, in conference action on Thursday night.

Tara Laugeni (Woodbridge, Conn.) and Emily St. Thomas (Sterling, Mass.) both scored in double-figures (11/10) in the setback.

Sarah Dempsey (Windham, N.H.) also contributed nine points and a team-high 12 rebounds, while Libby Fleming (Bangor, Maine) had seven points and seven boards to round out the list of individual highlights.

Leading 22-21 with 4:28 in the second quarter, Western New England produced a 10-3 run to close out the first half and held onto the advantage the rest of the way.

Endicott trailed 20-12 with 8:07 remaining in the second but responded with a 9-2 spurt of its own to bring the game within one point. Laugeni led the charge with six points during the run, while St. Thomas added three.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • The Golden Bears improved to 3-3 at home with the win.
  • Western New England has won four straight dating back to December 6.
  • The winning streak includes victories over Wentworth (66-40), Westfield State (80-75), and Nichols (86-44).

WHAT'S NEXT

Endicott (4-8, 2-3 CCC) hosts Wentworth on Saturday, January 7 at 1 PM. Western New England (6-6, 4-1 CCC) visits Salve Regina this Saturday at 1 PM.
