Women’s Basketball Takes Down Wentworth, 60-50

BOSTON, Mass. — The Endicott women's basketball team defeated Wentworth, 60-50, in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action on Saturday afternoon at Tansey Gymnasium.

Tara Laugeni (Woodbridge, Conn.) fueled the Gulls with 17 points (7-12 FG, 3-3 FT) and four rebounds. 

Sarah Dempsey (Windham, N.H.) also chipped in with 10 points alongside five rebounds and four assists, while Emily St. Thomas (Sterling, Mass.) stuffed the stat sheet with nine points, seven dimes, and five rebounds.

Cassie Caldwell (Marshfield, Mass.) rounded out the list of individual highlights with eight points (3-6 FG, 2-4 3PT), six rebounds, and three assists.

Deadlocked at 13-13 headed into the second quarter, the Gulls manufactured a 13-3 run to take a 30-18 lead with 2:33 left. The run was powered by a Mariah Chamberlain (Jaffrey, N.H.) layup, back-to-back three-pointers from Caldwell, layups by Dempsey and Katelyn Konareski (Milford, Conn.), a St. Thomas free throw, and a Dempsey lay-in to cap the spurt.

From there, the Gulls maintained at least an eight-point advantage throughout the second half and led by as many as 18 points (41-23) with 7:18 remaining in the matchup.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • Endicott completed the season sweep over Wentworth (77-52, 1/7/23) and has won 17 of the last 18 meetings against the Leopards dating back to 1/27/2014.
  • The Gulls turned the Leopards over 19 times, resulting in 21 points off those miscues. 
  • Endicott pulled down 13 more rebounds and dished out four assists than the hosts. 
  • The Blue and Green finished plus-15 on the offensive glass and manufactured 10 points second chance points.

WHAT'S NEXT

Endicott (9-12, 7-7 CCC) hosts to Western New England Tuesday, February 7 at 7:30 PM. Wentworth (4-17, 0-14 CCC) travels to Nichols this Tuesday at 5:30 PM.
