BEVERLY, Mass. — The Endicott men's soccer team has been ranked fourth in the Conference of New England's (CNE) 2024 preseason poll, as announced by the league office on Monday. Here's what you need to know about this year's squad prior to Friday night's season opener at Hempstead Stadium.
FIVE THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW
- The Gulls enter 2024 as the fourth ranked team in the CNE behind Roger Williams, Suffolk, and Western New England.
- The squad returns each of its top five scorers from 2023 in Tiago Frazao (Trumbull, Conn.), Max Karkos (Wethersfield, Conn.), Conor Rooney (Monroe, Conn.), Aidan Sheehan (Arlington, Mass.) and Cole Fergusson (South Salem, N.Y.). The quintet combined to score 23 of the Blue and Green's 28 goals last season (82.1%) and looks to power the Gulls past opponents in 2024.
- Senior back Codan Foley (Carver, Mass.) returns to action in 2024 after missing the entirety of the 2023 season due to injury. Foley was a crucial part of the Gulls' 2021 and 2022 squads, having logged eight points (two goals, four assists) over the course of those two seasons.
- Head Coach Joe Calabrese has named grad midfielder Frazao, junior midfielders Tim Lynch (Groton, Conn.) and Rooney, and junior defender Konrad Krysztoforski (Bydgoszcz, Poland) as team captains.
- Joining this year's coaching staff are Eric Watson and Sean O'Neill. Watson brings in past head coaching experience, as he formerly served as the Head Coach for Utica College (2011-13), SUNY New Paltz (2007-10), and Linfield College (2002-07 men's, 2002-03 women's). Over his career, Watson has compiled an impressive record of 116-88-21 (.562 win percentage). O'Neill joins the staff as a recent graduate of Western New England, where he was named the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Defensive Player of the Year, a CCC First Team All-Conference honoree, a New England Interscholastic League All-Star (NEILA) selection, a United Soccer Coaches Men's All-Region Team honoree, and a 2022 United Soccer Coaches Men's Scholar All-East Region Team honoree. Both men bring their expertise to an experienced Gulls squad in 2024.
