Fithian, Loughran Highlight Men’s Lacrosse Academic Honors

NEILA RELEASE | USILA SCHOLAR ALL-AMERICAN | USILA TEAM

BEVERLY, Mass. – Thirteen members of the Endicott men's lacrosse program have earned academic honors for their performances in the classroom.

Andrew Fithian (Marshfield, Mass.) and James Loughran (Cos Cob, Conn.) headlined the group with United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) Scholar All-America honors.

Criteria to receive USILA Scholar All-America Honors:

  • A student-athlete must be nominated by his coach and be a student with a senior year academic standing and a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 (4.0 scale)
  • He will have behaved in a manner that has brought credit to himself, his institution, and to college lacrosse both on and off the field
  • He must also be an All-American, a member of a North/South team, or an outstanding league or conference player

The USILA Scholar All-America Program was established in 1989 to recognize student-athletes from USILA member institutions who have distinguished themselves academically, athletically, and as citizens of their communities. The USILA Selection Committee selects an overall team representing Division I, II, and III.

Fithian and Loughran are now the 15th and 16th USILA Scholar All-Americans in program history, respectively.

As a team, the Gulls were one of 65 teams to receive the USILA All-Academic Team award for compiling a team GPA of 3.0 or better.

Alongside those honors, the following student-athletes claimed New England Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (NEILA) All-Academic honors: Sam Abate (Beverly, Mass.), Tim Carlson (Hebron, Conn.), Nate Cuttitta (Williston, Vt.), Jaden Elsinger (Richmond, Vt.), Ryan Fincher (Westport, Conn.), Fithian, Loughran, Tim Luciano (Westport, Conn.), Max Maggipinto (Westfield, Mass.), Domenic Masucci (Reading, Mass.), Kevin Morency (Beverly, Mass.), Domenic Russo (Northborough, Mass.), and Domenic Valera (Fitchburg, Mass.).

Endicott led all NCAA Division III institutions and tied Brown University for first among any division with 13 total honorees.

The 13 award winners are the most for the Gulls in the past decade, based on available data. Additionally, the Gulls had the most honorees out of any program in the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC).

Nominees must have senior or graduate student standing, a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better on a 4.0 scale, and be a significant enough student-athlete that he was nominated for at least All-Conference selection.
