CCC CHAMPIONSHIP: No. 22 Roger Williams Tops Women’s Basketball For First Conference Title, 67-46

BRISTOL, R.I. — The third-seeded Endicott women's basketball team fell to first-seeded and No. 22 nationally ranked Roger Williams, 67-46, on Saturday evening in the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Championship.

The Gulls came out of the gate hot, building up a 10-2 advantage over the first 3:58 minutes of play, but the Hawks responded by closing out the first quarter on an 11-5 run and capitalized on that momentum the rest of the way.

Roger Williams later secured a 29-22 lead headed into the break and went on to build up a game-high advantage of 25 points (8:48, 4th, 56-31) to eventually capture their first-ever CCC Championship in program history. 

Tara Laugeni (Woodbridge, Conn.) and Emily St. Thomas (Sterling, Mass.) highlighted the Gulls with eight points each. Laugeni also added nine rebounds, one block, a steal, and an assist to her stat line as well.

Morgan Bresnahan (Wilmington, Mass.) contributed seven points, eight rebounds, and five blocks, while Katelyn Konareski (Milford, Conn.) notched seven points, four rebounds, and two assists off the bench.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • The Hawks are ranked No. 22 in the latest Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Top-25 Poll (as of February 22, 2022).

  • Roger Williams improved to 13-2 at home this season.

  • Prior to today's game, the Hawks' previous CCC Championship appearances occurred in 2013-14 and  2017-18.

  • Roger Williams led for 26:53 of the game.

  • Today's game only featured three ties and one lead change.

  • Endicott's bench outscored Roger Williams' 19-18.

  • The Gulls blocked ten shots as a unit.

  • Bresnahan's five blocks are the second-highest of her career (eight, 02/05/2022 vs. Roger Williams)

Roger Williams has earned the conference's automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament and will find out its first round opponent on Monday, February 28 at 2:30 PM (EST) on NCAA.com

Endicott's season comes to a close at 17-11 overall.
