Women’s Basketball Downs Curry, 74-45

MILTON, Mass. — The Endicott women's basketball team nearly led wire-to-wire in a 74-45 victory over Curry on Saturday afternoon at Katz Gymnasium.

Tara Laugeni (Woodbridge, Conn.) and Sarah Dempsey (Windham, N.H.) both recorded double-doubles to guide the Gulls in the win.

Laugeni produced a line of 26 points and 10 rebounds, while Dempsey compiled 15 points, 18 rebounds, and six blocks. Dempsey's six blocks and 18 rebounds are tied for second and fifth all-time, respectively, in the program's record books (both career-highs).

The Gulls also saw Libby Fleming (Bangor, Maine) register 13 points and six rebounds, while Olivia Duncan (Essex Junction, Vt.) almost had an unconventional double-double with five points, eight assists, and 13 rebounds (tied career-high).

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • Tied 4-4 with 8:19 in the first quarter, Endicott closed out the opening stanza with a 15-6 run and never looked back.
  • The Gulls are 35-8 all-time against Curry.
  • Endicott earned its third road win of the season.
  • The Gulls dominated in the paint, outscoring Curry 42-20.
  • As a team, Endicott recorded 10 blocks, which is tied for 10th all-time in a single game.
  • Freshman guard Elizabeth Wilson (Franklin, Mass.) scored her first collegiate basket with a long-range jumper at 2:01 of the third (54-30).
  • Claire Troiano (Vicenza, Italy) and Jarni Hewins (Fayette, Maine) also made their collegiate debuts along with Wilson.
  • The Gulls held Curry to its third-lowest scoring total on the season.

WHAT'S NEXT

Endicott (5-6, 2-2 CCC) hosts Nichols on Wednesday, January 12 at 5:30 PM. Curry (3-9, 0-5 CCC) welcomes the University of New England to its campus on Monday, January 10 at 2 PM.
