CCC QUARTERFINALS: No. 3 Endicott Stymies No. 6 Salve Regina, 64-52

BEVERLY, Mass. — The Endicott women's basketball defeated Salve Regina, 64-52, in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) quarterfinal round action on Tuesday evening at MacDonald Gymnasium.  

Down 32-16 with 3:39 remaining in the second quarter, the Gulls closed out the half on a 13-0 run to bring the game within three (32-29).

The Gulls then carried that momentum into the third quarter outscoring Salve Regina 8-4 in the opening 3:28 of the stanza and never looked back.

In the fourth quarter, Endicott led by as many as 15 points on three different occasions (5:15, 56-41 | 4:23, 58-43 | 1:47, 64-49).

Sarah Dempsey (Windham, N.H.) paced the Gulls with a 20 point and 13 rebound performance (8-15 FG, 4-4 FT, 15th double-double this season). 

Olivia Duncan (Essex Junction, Vt.), Emily St. Thomas (Sterling, Mass.), and Tara Laugeni (Woodbridge, Conn.) also registered 10, nine, and nine points, respectively, in the victory.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • Tonight's contest featured four ties and eight lead changes.
  • Katelyn Konareski (Milford, Conn.) guided the Gulls in their 13-0 second quarter run with five points.
  • Endicott also received four from Dempsey, two via Duncan, and another basket by Libby Fleming (Bangor, Maine) during the second quarter offensive spurt.
  • St. Thomas (4), Duncan (2), and Dempsey (2) all contributed to the Gulls' third quarter 8-4 run.
  • Entering tonight's game, Dempsey was tied 12th overall for the most double-doubles among her NCAA Division III peers this season.
  • The Gulls snatched thirteen steals in tonight's triumph (3rd most this season).
  • Endicott has reached the CCC Semifinals each of the last four seasons.

WHAT'S NEXT 

Endicott (16-10) will travel to Biddeford, Maine to take on the University of New England (18-8) in the CCC Semifinals on Thursday, Feb. 24 at 7 PM. Salve Regina's season comes to an end at 10-15 overall.
