Endicott Bests Western New England, 74-69 (OT); Dempsey Ties Single-Game Scoring Record

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. — The Endicott women's basketball team overcame a fourth quarter deficit to secure a 74-69 overtime victory against Western New England in conference action on Wednesday night.

Sarah Dempsey (Windham, N.H.) fueled the comeback victory behind a program-record-tying 37 points (14-21 FG, 0-0 3PT, 9-9 FT), 15 rebounds, two assists, and one steal.

Tara Laugeni (Woodbridge, Conn.), who reset the record books earlier this season with 37 points against Nichols on January 12, 2022, finished tonight's contest with 26 points (12-22 FG, 2-2 FT), eight rebounds, and three assists.

The Gulls also saw Lexi Gellerman (West Hartford, Conn.) and Olivia Duncan (Essex Junction, Vt.) contribute six and five points, respectively, in the win.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • The Gulls are 19-11 all-time against Western New England.
  • Tonight's game featured 15 lead changes and nine tied (fourth quarter: 5 lead changes; 3 ties).
  • Endicott trailed 51-45 headed into the fourth quarter.
  • Dempsey knocked down a jumper near the left elbow with 21-seconds to play in regulation to give the Gulls the lead before Western New England buried a pair of free throws to force the extra session.
  • In overtime, Dempsey and Gellerman contributed four points apiece, while Laugeni had two.
  • Dempsey is only the third student-athlete in program history to score 30 or more points in a contest without attempting a three (Hannah Shaw '18, 31 points, 2/11/15 | Laugeni, 37 points, 1/12/22).

Endicott (12-7, 9-3 CCC) travels to No. 19 Roger Williams on Saturday, February 5 at 1 PM. Western New England (7-12, 5-7 CCC) visits the University of New England this Saturday at 1 PM.
