Babson Tops Women’s Basketball, 49-42

BABSON PARK, Mass. — The Endicott women's basketball team lost to Babson, 49-42, on Thursday evening in the opening game of the Judy Pearson '85 Memorial Tournament at Staake Gymnasium.

Junior forward Tara Laugeni (Woodbridge, Conn.) led the Gulls with a game-high 22 points, seven rebounds, and a steal.

Sarah Dempsey (Windham, N.H.) also contributed 10 points and 14 rebounds, while Libby Fleming (Bangor, Maine) chipped in with six points, four assists, and one steal in the loss.

Down 24-23 at halftime, the Gulls responded with a 6-0 run (29-24) to open the second stanza, manufacturing their largest lead of the contest.

From there, Babson closed out the third quarter with a 12-2 spurt of its own and never relinquished the lead the rest of the way despite a gritty comeback bid from the Gulls.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • Endicott brought the game within four points (43-39) with 4:58 remaining.
  • Laugeni has scored 15 or more points in five games this season (two with 20 or more).
  • Dempsey notched her fourth career double-double.
  • Tonight's game only featured five ties and four lead changes.
  • The largest lead of the game belonged to the hosts (39-31, 4th, 7:42).
  • Babson is 4-0 at home this season.
  • The Beavers also extended their home winning streak to 12 straight games, which dates back to the start of their 2020-21 campaign.

Endicott (4-5) concludes play in the Judy Pearson '85 Memorial Tournament tomorrow against Wesleyan at 12 PM. Babson (8-2) hosts Framingham State tomorrow at 2 PM.
