Gulls’ Duo Claims All-CCC Honors; Dempsey Named Rookie Of The Year

BEVERLY, Mass. – Endicott women's basketball student-athletes Sarah Dempsey (Windham, N.H.) and Tara Laugeni (Woodbridge, Conn.) have received postseason honors from the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC), as announced by the league office earlier today.

Dempsey highlighted the duo by earning CCC Rookie of the Year accolades. Both student-athletes also were named to the All-CCC First Team for the first time in their respective careers.

In 25 games played this season, Dempsey is averaging 15.2 points, 10.4 rebounds, 1.7 assists, 1.2 steals, and 1.6 blocks per game.

She also has notched 14 double-doubles (tied 12th most in D3) and scored 20 or more points in six games this year, highlighted by her school record tying 37-point effort against Western New England on 2/2/22.

Dempsey's CCC ranks include: games (8th), minutes per game (29.0, 17th), field goals made (151, 4th), free throws made (76, 4th), offensive rebounds (88, 2nd), defensive rebounds (173, 1st), total rebounds (261, 1st), rebounds per game (2nd), assists (43, 29th), steals (30, 23rd), blocks (39, 5th), points (380, 4th), points per game (4th), and points per 40 minutes (21.0, 6th).

Additionally, Dempsey is the third student-athlete in program history to earn Rookie of the Year honors. Dempsey joins Cassandra Stapelfeld (2017-18) and Hannah Shaw (2014-15) on the list.

All three Rookie of the Year honorees have been selected under the guidance of current head coach Brittany Hutchinson

Laugeni is averaging 16.4 points, 7.6 rebounds, 1.8 assists, and 1.3 steals per game in 25 contests this year.

She also has recorded four double-doubles and compiled 20 or more points in eight games. Laugeni's other highlights this season include breaking the program scoring record with 37 points against Nichols on January 12, 2022, and scoring 30-plus points in two games (12/8/21).

Her CCC ranks include: games (8th), games started (2nd), minutes per game (20th), field goals made (178, 1st), free throws made (53, 10th), offensive rebounds (64, 10th), defensive rebounds (125, 9th), total rebounds (189, 8th), rebounds per game (10th), assists (45, 25th), steals (32, 20th), blocks (20, 11th), points (409, 2nd), points per game (2nd), points per 40 minutes (23.0, 3rd).
